View Full Version : Hope lost for Loston ?

Walt Deptula talked about the possibility that Clemson may / has lost the commitment of Loston.
I made a phone call and sent a couple of e-mails and it seems that there may be some truth to it.
Loston hasn't had anymore contact with the other recruits that have been recruiting him like JK Jay. None of those guys has been able to reach him and as you know the staff can't contact prospects right now.
It seems as though LSU is weighing very heavy on his mind . That may make sense for him because it would put him closer to home as well as his cousin will be playing for the Bayou Bengals.
In a recent interveiw Loston was quoted as saying that he is commited to Clemson. But it seems kinda strange that he has gone underground.
It's hard to get a commitment from a player of his caliber and maintain it until February without the wolves calling.
It sure would be nice to have an early signing period ! It would help with alot of this.
In short it looks like this could be another Harmon story.....but I hope not.
Either way ,if he will just say something to the staff early so they can get on another player it would be OK. To pull a Harmon at the last minute isn't very classy and will make it pretty much impossible to work another prospect.

Remember that this guy hates the media. Scout had an interview with him a couple of weeks ago and he said that he was committed to Clemson. Sometimes no news is just that no news. Also, while our staff can't contact him, neither can anyone else.
I'm not saying that there's not cause for concern, but this guy is heading into his last year of HS football. I'd be willing to bet that what college he's going to is NOT weighing heavily on his mind. The upcoming season for his HS team is. I think if we can hold him until the season is over, he's ours. He is planning on rooming with Holloman at the UnderArmour game and that's really good news for us.

If we win,Loston will come. If we don't play to expectations he may not.

It seems to me that it is way too early to guess whether this young man will stick with his earlier committment to Clemson. February is a long time from now and as Hopefultiger pointed out, he is probably involved with preparations for his senior year playing high school.

This kid has made some freinds on the team and been keeping in touch. But since his trip to LSU noone can get him and he doesn't return calls.

Hey Prime, welcome back to TPT! I always like to read your contributions to the recruiting section.
As for Loston...should we be worried, absolutely. But until he officially decommits, he is still Clemson's to lose. LSU insiders have actually become less confident and cocky with the passing time. I think they felt that Loston was going to switch allegiance sooner rather than later and now that he's still an Orange and Purple Tiger, they are starting to get nervous that they didn't quite win him. I'm definitely still worried about him and will be until the ink dries, but less so now than right after the weekend. We need to survive until he takes an official to Clemson...if we can pull that off, we'll have an excellent shot at landing him.

These kids will be watching this Alabama game close. Maybe if VK opens up the play book a bit and possibly lets the safeties blitz a couple of times to throw off this "good" Oline bama has. The better Hamlins media spin is, well it wouldnt hurt his chances.

Great news on the Loston front. Devonte Holloman spoke to him this weekend (Loston was actually visiting the Longhorns this weekend on his mother's orders to make sure he knows where he wants to go). Holloman reports that Loston is still solid to Clemson. Obvously, that's really good for us. If we can hold him until we can get him to a game in Clemson, I think we keep him. Holloman and JK Jay will reel him in in the UnderArmor game if we can get that far with him. He seems to have a genuine adversion to the media and interviews in general, so NSD surprises seem unlikely.

I'd say:
(1)WRs-Kendall Kelly (Alabama) and Jheranie Boyd (FL or Clemson 50/50)
(2)LB - Jarvis Jones (I'm gonna go out on a limb and say we get him!)
(3)Sam Montgomery (Clemson...Feel good about him!)
(4)OL- Xavier Nixon (Would love to see it, but he may end up elsewhere.)
(5)LB-Nico Johnson (It'll be tough to get him out of AL.)
(6)DL-Antwan Lowery (No clue)
(7)DB-Stephon Gilmore (I think it's about 50/50...)
(8)Db-Branden Smith ( I think we get him)
(9)LB-Frankie Telfort/Danial Mack (No clue)
(10)Darius Winston (No clue)

It was reported by the Scout site that Devonte Holloman talked to Loston in the last week. He was in Austin Tx visiting the Longhorns.
Holloman said Loston told him he is still firm with Clemson.
*Holloman is doing a recruiting diary for the scout site and has entries every couple of weeks .

1) WR - Kendall Kelly: Looking harder at in-state schools of recent week, Bama is going to be tough to beat, but if he goes out of state, we'll have a punchers chance
WR - Jheranie Boyd: I give Clemson the slightest of edges...if we can overcome the little birdie whispering in his ear about Florida, we'll be alright
2) LB - Jarvis Jones: Has been open to other offers and is considering both LSU and Florida hard, but I still like our chances and think he'll end up a Tiger
3) DE - Sam Montgomery: Impossible to read, but he's getting an earful from several Tiger commits and has become pretty good friends with several of them...we'll know more after official visits, but this kid will come down to the day of his decision
4) OL - Xavier Nixon: Looking doubtful...he's considering the Florida schools the hardest right now and I don't think we have enough staying power to get back into it
5) LB - Nico Johnson: No chance and never really had one...too bad, kid can play
6) DL - Antwan Lowery: No chance, he'll stay in-state unless he pulls a complete shocker and becomes a Scarlet Knight
7) DB - Stephon Gilmore: Despite swirling rumors and innuendoes of him being an SCAR silent, I like Clemson's chances a lot...
8) DB - Branden Smith: May be the best athlete at CB in the nation, but there's a very small chance he gets away from the Dawgs...and if he does, it'll be to the Tigers...the LSU Tigers. We have a very small chance at this point.
9) LB - Frankie Telfort: Slim to no chance there. Daniel Mack: If we push for him (depends on several other factors including some higher on our board), Clemson will be the team to beat...we really wowed him and could be a major player for him depending on open spots.
10) DB - Darius Winston: Slim shot...look for him to either pledge to Ole Miss or re-affirm back to Arkansas shortly.

-Boyd-yeah,like we stated.I think Clemson gets him too.
-Jarvis Jones has been a hard 1 for me to read, hes considering
the Gators alot,right.
-Antwan Lowery-Clemson may not get him,but I think hes at
least thinking about it,you never know.We do have a"SHOT".
-Branden Smith-heres something thats going sound alil dumb,
so don't give me too hard of a time for saying this. But I think
his calling might be on offense..yep,offense.

Prime:
B. Smith on offense isn't dumb at all...not in the least. As a matter of fact, I know that Clemson is actually recruiting him at the WR position. He is electric with the ball in his hands and a big-time playmaker. In addition, since we started recruiting him on the offensive side of the ball, UGA has too. I think he could be a special player at the next level on the offensive side of the ball...but I think he has NFL lock-down corner potential. I'll liken him to Whitlock from last year...sure, he could play WR and succeed there...maybe even wind up all-conference by the end of his career...but he'll never make the NFL at that position...however, at corner, the kid has got a TON of potential.

I have to tell all of you that I find it amazing that all of you seem to really keep track of all of these prospects. Personally, it seems like a whole lot of work over something over which I have zero control. Of course, I guess everyone has a hobby and discussing prospective recruits is as good a hobby as any! Besides, I like the updates as I don't read this stuff.
