Evaluation

Loston may be one of the most athletic triple threats in the 2009 recruiting class. His size and versatility as a safety, wide receiver and return specialist are impressive. Tabbed as one of high school football's premier safeties heading into his senior year, he's an exceptional pass defender. He shows excellent technical skill and physical talent at defensive back. Has outstanding leaping ability, which is clearly evident when he elevates to high-point the ball. Has the soft hands to make difficult interceptions. He's athletic enough to play in man-to-man coverage and zone. Possesses tremendous closing speed and covers a lot of ground in zone coverage. Has great body control and agility when making speed turns in the secondary. Plays receivers well and is very instinctive. Has striking catch-up speed and change-of-direction skills. A physical tackler that isn't afraid to give up his body when making the play. Could be a little more consistent getting his head in front of the ball carrier or receiver when making an angle tackle in the openfield. A versatile athlete who can play wideout or safety. Makes big plays on both sides of the ball. He can be a phenomenal punt and kickoff return specialist who is dangerous any time he's on the field. Loston is very gifted and competitive, and he'll be a huge asset to any college program.

I love it when they say they want to enroll early. That really helps secure them on a scholarship. I also like his versatility: safety, wide receiver and return specialist!

He has already said he won't be enrolling early... didn't get the summer classes done this year.

While disappointing a bit that Loston won't be able to enroll early, I must say that he really has impressed me with his ability and athleticism. Some of his plays that I've seen on film have been spectacular.

For what it's worth, I think we hold onto him as commit, but I won't be 100% comfortable till AFTER his name is inked on his letter in Feb.

I think if Clemson has the season we hope for then we'll probably keep him.
