Holloman is versatile and solid all-around--a very good football player. He is tall, rangy and shows aptitude both in coverage and in run support. He's very good at playing the deep ball by keeping inside position on a receiver, high-pointing the ball and timing his interception attempt. His agility and athleticism are evident in his ability to maintain body control and balance in the open field. Shows good instincts against the run. Takes proper run-support angles and reacts quickly to the sweep and sprint-out. Instinctively closes forward from a deep position and maintains an inside-out position on the ball. Demonstrates physical toughness when tackling and has the size to deliver a blow. Needs to show more consistency in wrapping up ballcarriers and driving his legs on contact. If he learns to tackle with more knee-bend and drive through ball carriers by starting low and finishing high, he can develop into a devastating hitter. Having played quarterback should be a big asset for him in the secondary at the next level. Formation awareness, pre-snap reads and understanding various coverages should make the transition to full-time safety easier. He is very quick and smooth; his overall speed will determine whether he ultimately winds up at free safety or strong safety. Holloman will be one of the most sought-after safeties in the class of 2009.

213 lbs -- that kid is large for a high school safety!

That is big... Do you think he gets moved to LB?

Holloman could excell at the SAM LB spot, there's no doubt there. However, with a glaring need at S with the departure of All ACC seniors Hamlin and Clemons, Clemson will get its best players on the field, and DeVonte will be one of them as an early enrollee true freshman. He'll get immediate playing time at SS and may even win the starting job as a true frosh. He'll start at safety and stay there for his career unless something dramatic happens. He's just too talented not to play right away at safety.

In addition, something which people tend to overlook is where the passion for the position lies with the kids. That is, the more passionate a player feels about where he's playing, the harder he'll practice, the harder he'll work, the more he'll want to be on the field. Holloman wants to play at Safety. Move him to LB and it's entirely possible that he'll never reach his potential.

I see him as an excellent SS prospect that will be a 3 year starter for us, if not a 4 year starter.

As big of a boost, Loston is to our 2009 class, Holloman may very well be just as important. Just picturing the two of them together.....whew!!!

Go Tigers

We all know that seniors Hamlin and Clemons will be the starters. However, if some of the freshmen get some serious playing time at safety, then Holloman could be used as the SAM LB if he becomes a Tiger in January 2009!
