For him to select Ky over Clemson B4 The season says that he thinks that he will have a better shot of playing at KY right away
Then again he could have just wanted to play in the SEC

Absolutely. Newton has always been a KY fan and he stands an excellant chance of playing (starting) as a TF. Wouldn't be at all surprised if that QB from Tx decommits.

I'd be more surprised if Mossakowski (sp) doesn't play baseball instead...
He's supposed to be pretty good.

You win some; you lose some. We have a stable full of QBs. I think we can now spend more time working on WRs, LBs, Safeties, DLs, and OLs. It wouldn't hurt to bring in another RB.

Keep in mind folks,I truely believe that QB was never a huge
priority for the Clemson staff this year. They recruited a couple
qbs,but I really don't think it was their intention to sign 1.
And why would you with Harper,Korn & Parker on board.
I say lets get some good WRs & LBS!*

WR J. Boyd looks great. Hes a cool kid that plays hard and wont get into trouble at all.

Have to disagree ever so slightly. The fact that Rob Spence spent as much time with Newton personally makes me think that he was a prime target, at least for Spence. I believe that Spence dreams of having a Vince Young/Terrell Pryor type QB to groom for his offense. Nevertheless, you are right that Harper, Korn and Parker (maybe even Richt) is a pretty full cupboard.

Actually, Prime and planotrw are both right on this one:
Rob Spence is VERY happy with what he has in his cupboard right now. Willy Korn has actually been BETTER in practice than they originally anticipated and Spence is very pleased. He hasn't seen a whole lot of Parker, but really likes what he has seen so far. Now...on to Mossakowski and Newton...Spence felt that Mossakowski had the potential to be every bit as good as what we have on campus, and felt that Newton was actually an upgrade in talent/potential (yes, including Korn) to what is on campus. So yes, Spence made Newton a HUGE priority...he wanted him pretty badly...but as an oversign. We only offered a total of 5 qb's and they are all now committed elsewhere. It is very likely that we won't offer a single other qb for this class - why? Because we don't need to...we have a great depth on campus and were looking for oversign worthy talent only. Missing on Mossakowski and Newton doesn't hurt us at all...it would have only been gravy.
Look for us to go hard after a couple of qb's next year...we have already been in extensive contact with a few, and they should get their offers as soon as September rolls around (when you can legally offer a junior prospect in writing).

I agree.
I watched Newton play Sunday on ESPNU. I don't know what the final score was but his team was down 21-7 at the half.
Honestly he looked like the average scrambling QB to me.
He might have made a good receiver or something, but no way in Hell could he have come to Clemson and made the three deep at this time !

He had a couple of good tight throws...but they were running him far too much. Looked like he was hurting. They were holding him to two and three yards per carry. I dont see where the 5stars came from. He didnt look near as quick as the WR Jheranie Boyd. That kids quick like smart.
