I disagree totally here. Unlike football, Clemson is at a definate disadvantage in basketball. Duke, UNC, GT, NC State, and WF ALL have more success at backetball and have better athletes top to bottom on their rosters than Clemson does. OP's defense is set up the way it is, b/c we can't compete head to head with most teams in the ACC in basketball. In the 6 years that he's been here, Clemson has gone from an 'after thought' in the ACC... a team that scraps along and tries to knock off one of the 'good teams' at home a couple of times a year, to a team that no one can look past. Clemson is heading for the big dance for the 3rd year in a row... a school record. Clemson has also won 8 ACC games for the 3rd year in a row (also a school record). We also have 20+ wins for the 4th year (yep, school record).
Am I frustrated that we didn't knock off WF and get a bye in the ACC tourney? You bet, but we knew we had a tough run to end the season a couple of weeks ago.
at Maryland
at FSU
GT
at WF
ALL these teams have better athetes on them (as a whole) than we do and we ended up 2-2 for those 4 games. That's very reasonable IMO.
Now, I'd REALLY like to win a couple of games in the ACC tourney. We should be able to beat NC State if we play well, but Maryland in the 2nd round is going to be tough. Ditto in the NCAA tourney. I'm hoping that we can win the 1st round, but realistically you have to ask yourself. IS Clemson one of the best 16 teams in the country (the answer is NO BTW)? Is Clemson one of the best 32 teams in the country? Maybe, but again probably not. If we get by the 1st round, we'll be doing great and we'll continue to build the program.
